Ok, where is the time going? We have been so busy and so much has happened since my last entry…a trip to Grandma & Grandpa Schwalje’s, Riley’s first trip to the zoo, she turned 5 months and 6 months, our first Mother’s Day, a trip to San Diego. Oh and we moved into our house :). I am not even sure where to begin. Let me just say I promise to get better and better at updating the blog.
I am also looking into posting pictures through an online photo album so I can post more than just a few and hopefully can post more frequently…you know in between written updates.
At Riley’s six month appointment the nurse said…”wow, you are growing like a weed.” It’s true. The doctor was sure something had been measured wrong so she remeasured. Riley spent almost 5 months wearing 0-3 month clothing and about a month wearing 3-6 month clothing. We are just amazed at how big she has gotten. To help give you an idea she gained almost as much between 4 and 6 months as she gained the first four months of life! She is now 26 inches long and 16 lbs 5 oz. Don’t get me wrong people still call her “petite”. Other than that news, the six month appointment was pretty uneventful.
She is continuing to eat solids. I think she has now tried all the stage one foods except pears & bananas. Yep, she eats more vegetables than her mom J. She seems to like peas the best. Oh except for Cheerios which are her absolute favorite.
Riley & I took our first solo trip at the end of April. We flew out east to see some of my family, including my parents, my sister Deb and my brother Rob, SIL Kim and their daughter Julia. We had a blast. Julia could make Riley laugh like no one else. At one point Kim and I were sitting with them on the floor as they had a laugh-off. Jules would laugh at Riley and then Riley would laugh back. It was beyond adorable. While we were out there we also discovered the Johnny Jumperoo! This turned out to be a must have for our little bundle of energy.
After that trip, we came back and moved into our new house. This is still a work-in-progress, but we are getting settled in. We do really love the house and our neighborhood and Chris is adjusting to the commute. Pictures coming soon.
Last weekend we went to San Diego and Riley saw the ocean for the first time. We spent a lot of time outdoors, did a lot of walking, and hanging out with Grandpa Jim and Sylvie. Their dog Allie just loved Riley and she thought Allie was the greatest (besides Dazzle).
Riley enjoys being able to sit-up and play with her toys. She can get much more active with them now. And she especially enjoys playing with her Daddy who can make her belly-laugh almost as much as her dog Dazzle. She is a social baby, loves going new places and seeing new people. The number one comment about Riley these days is “she is so alert.” I agree. I think it is for that reason that she is not always a big fan of napping. She definitely needs more and more stimulation to wear her down. No teeth yet, though everyone keeps telling me she is teething. I am not so sure b/c this kid has chewed on everything since birth. And she is not crawling, though she is starting to show some interest as she lays on her belly, kicks her legs and grunts louder and louder as if that will help her move to where she wants to be.
Ok, well, this is it for now, but I will try to keep posting more and more updates.
Lots of love,
Chris, Paula, Riley & Dazzle
