I started to post this in the beginning of September, but never did...so here it is now!
Riley has followed in the footsteps of many near two year olds before her...she has come to love the word "No!" (yes, the exclamation is part of the word). "Riley can Mommy have a kiss?" No! "Riley, do you want to go outside?" No! "Riley won't you eat your veggies?" No!
It often sounds so harsh and mean...I think where is that sweet little baby that was here yesterday. So I have tried to teach her that it's not nice to so emphatically say No! (especially to everything we ask). I have decided to teach her it is so much nicer to say "No, thank you." in a sweet voice.
She tries, but often its out of context. "Riley, its time to go night-night." No, thank you. "Riley, did you poop?" No, thank you.
She is also into say "Okay"...I'm thinking I say this without realizing it and she has picked it up from me. But the kid is smart. Though, she's a talker, like all toddlers its not always easy to understand what she is saying...so she will keep repeating and pointing at what she wants. And we, her parents, guess until we are right. So she points at the refrigerator and say "Milk?" and she continues to point and repeat. Until we say something like "You want ice cream?" And she simply responds "Okay" As if it we were suggesting she have ice cream rather than she was asking for it.
